The 8 white stars stand for the first 8 provinces of the country. For further details you may have a glance at Colombia as the explanation is the same. Yello reprezents the wealth of the nation, blue the Atlantic Ocean, red both the blood shed for the independence & the courage of the people. Yet another explanation states that yello may represent the Whites, blue the Blax, red both the Mulattoes & the Real Americans (so called "Indians"). The flag comes from Francisco Miranda's 1806 independentist flag and was adopted in 1811 by the First Republic of Venezuela. The 3 bands were turned equal in 1817 for the Third Republic of Venezuela. The stars were added in 1859 and rearranged semi circle in 1930. The present pattern with 8 stars was adopted in 2006 exactly 200 yearz after the claiming of independence of Gran Colombia. This 8° star has been added in order to reprezent the western part of Guyana which is claimed by Venezuela. The 8 stars are also a reminder of the 1817 flag. The present pattern was adopted on 12 MARCH 2006.
