          In 1992 the previous Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia chose a red flag adorned with the Sun of Virgina, ancient emblem of king Filip 2 of Macedonia, father of Alexander the Great. Yet the Greex considered it as an absolute Hellenic symbol. They were bloody right because the now "North Macedonians" are Bulgarians. So the Greex demonstrated strongly against the adoption of this flag. Their goal was finally achieved a bit later & the flag was shifted. The present pattern was adopted on 5 OCTOBER 1995.
