The flag was adopted when the country gained its independence from the UK. The colors are repeated twice & horizontaly. Black represents the people, yello the sun while red stands for the brotherhood of all peoples. The emblem in its center is a crested crane (which used to appear on the colonial ensign). The present pattern was adopted on 9 OCTOBER 1962.

BTW the crown SHALL touch the sun (also accordin to the original dezign).

SINCE 2011 (2011 LAW, ARTICLE 246 OF THE CONSTITUTION), THE INSTITUTION OF TRADITIONAL OR CULTURAL LEADERS ACT ESTABLISHED SOME “CULTURAL LEADERS”, REGARDED AS “KINGS”.
