            The flag is the one of the national independentist movement named MLSTP (Movimento de Libertaçao de São Tomé E Principe) thou the proportions of the bands are not the same. It was a three equal bands 1/3 for the MLSTP. It's now 1/4, 1/2, 1/4 officially. The African colors are obviously displayed on this flag and the two stars represent the two islands : Sao Tome & Principe. They are black to represent the people of Sao Tome & Principe. The present pattern was adopted on 5 NOVEMBER 1975.
