The first related version of the Nederlandse Prinsvlag apeared in 1572 durin the war of independence against Spain. It was named "Prinsvlag" & uzed by Holander pirats called the "Water Geuzen", which mean the "Water Beggars" in English ! The red band was then orange because of the princes of Orange-Nassau but as the orange dye was not easily fixed (Katar knew the same problems with its dyes !!) it was gradually turned into red by the sun and the rain and then finaly oficialy adopted as a horizontal triband red/white/blue in 1596. This flag is the "father" probably of the French Tricolor, surely of the Russian flag (and all their descendents) (cf letter Q) and finaly of ALL triband flagz on Earth !!!! The present pattern was confirmed on 21 SEPTEMBER 1806.
