            The basis is the flag of the KANU (Kenya African National Union) that achieved the independence. Black stands for the people, red (brown) is the blood shed, green is both agriculture & natural resource. Two white fimbriations were added on KANU's flag to symbolize peace & unity. It also bears the Masai emblem : the tribal shield with two crossed spears representin the defence of the national freedom. The present pattern was adopted on 12 DECEMBER 1963.
