India's flag is based on the one of the Indian National Congress that led the struggle against the British rule. As this party finally won the elections in 1947 its flag was naturally adopted as the new national emblem. Orange (safran) is the traditional color of the budists while green represents islam; the white band stands for the wish of peace betwin both comunities (as for Ireland !). The blue wheel is called Sharka : it symbolizes the perpetual motion & contunity of all things. Its 24 rays symbolize the 24 hours of the day. It's also a reference to Ghandi's famous spinnin wheel. The name of the flag is Tiranga which means "Tricolor" in Hindi. The present pattern was adopted on 22 JULY 1947.

seen. I hope the second (STRAIT TRICOLOR) will be retained as the
