This flag is the pattern of all the African flags displayin the African colors green-yello-red (cf letter Q). Originally Etiopians were usin three separate pennants, turned into a real flag officialy in 1889 but the red band was on the top. The colors were reversed later, on 6 October 1897. Thou it has shown several different emblems (particularly the Lion of Juda) its basis remained the same. Now the central pentacle represents equality of peoples in & out Etiopia (the star stands for the unity of the country & the people's common will). Light blue stands for peace. The present pattern was adopted on 6 FEBRUARY 1996.

On this painting which displays the Battle of Adwa, on 1 MARCH 1896, the Etiopian flags look ALREADY green-yello-red. So I should turn my 1897 into 1896 AT LEAST !!!! But there seems to be NO emblem on the flag....

But, of course, the problem is this painting has been made AFTER the war.... and I cant find nor the artist name neither the right date !!!!

I REALY DO like this extraordinary monument named Aksum Obelisk or Aksum Stele or King Ezana's Stele.

So I imagined a possible new flag with the 1996 light blue disc (I like this blue disc !) adorned with the top head of that monument. (detail)

I also said the fuckin bloody "red negus" asshole colonel Menghistu.... but I must recognize I M a fuckin wanker of shit as I prefer a version which displays the monument chosen by Menghistu as oficial emblem in 1987 !!!!
