          The Eritreans fought durin a 30 years long war against Etiopia and won their independence at last in 1993. When the country was anexed as a region of Etiopia it has its own provincial flag which was blue with a green olive wreath. The basis of the now design is the flag of the Eritrean People's Liberation Front (EPLF). Its yello star was replaced a lil bit later by the 1952 olive wreath and became then the new flag of the country. The present pattern was adopted on 24 MAY 1993, shifted & stretched on 5 DECEMBER 1995.
