           The first emergence of the Estonian triband dates back from 1881 & was displayed as a national emblem against the Russian domination. It was finaly adopted in 1918 when the country proclaimed its independence from Russia. But from 1940 till 1990 Estonia was invaded & annexed to the Soviet Union & had to use comunist flags. Blue is for the sky, black for the soil & the past of Estonia, white for the snow & freedom. The present pattern was (re)adopted on 7 AUGUST 1990.
