            Becos of the two antagonist peoples livin in Cyprus (Greex & Turx) the first government decided to adopt a neutral symbol to represent the island. That's why the flag is white. A map of the country is designed in its center; the "yellorange" reminds the copper which is the main mineral resource of Cyprus (the Greek name is Kupros & means "copper"). The two olive branches ekoe the white field as a symbol of peace (thou it doesnt seem to work !). The present pattern was adopted on 16 AUGUST 1960. Its design was shifted on 20 APRIL 2006.
