           This arkipelago bacame independent from Portugal in 1975 & adopted a very similar flag to this of Guinea Bissau as it was planned that both countries would constitute a federation. Yet a coup in Guinea Bissau in 1980 rendered this project null & void. However Cabo Verde kept that flag. It's only 12 yearz later that the country choze a real diferent flag. The blue field is Atlantic Ocean, the red stripe on a white band is the Tropic of Cancer while the circle of 10 starz reprezents the arkipelago itself. The present pattern was adopted on 25 SEPTEMBER 1992.
