            The Cuban flag is inspired both from the French Tricolor and the Stars & Stripes. The three blue stripes represent the three original regions of Cuba; the two white embody purity of Cuban ideals. The triangle is a masonic symbol (often visible on flags of Central America). It is red in order to remind the blood shed against the Spanish rule. Notice that the flag of Puerto Rico is directly inspired from Cuba. The present pattern dates from 1849 & was officially adopted on 20 MAY 1902.
