This flag results of a competition held in 1967 in order to give a new emblem to the country. The winner of this contest was named Reginald SAMUEL. He describes the meanin of his flag as followin : the "V" is "The V of Victory" while the red field embodies the vitality of the people. The white part stands for the sand of the beaches & the blue for the ocean. Above is a risin sun in the sky. Except the stone tower the flag is very close to the shield of Antigua's coat of arms. We can say this flag makes the touristic promotion of these islands ! The present pattern was adopted on 27 FEBRUARY 1967 & kept after Antigua became so called independent from the UK in 1981.

1967   (independence ONLY 1981)    FLAG OF CONVENIENCE OF SHIT

Some say this is Antigua State ensign but it's EXTREMELY WEIRD as it should be like this blue ensign.

Originally known as the Antigua and Barbuda Police Marine Unit, it was transferred to the Antigua and Barbuda Defence Force in 1995 and is now described as “ABDF Coast Guard”.  As it is part of the Defence Force, the flag could be described as a naval ensign, but as the Coast guard operations include mostly law enforcement and maritime safety functions, it is probably better to be described as “state ensign’” i.e. the flag for use by government vessels.
