            This flag is the combination of the pattern of the Arab Revolution of 1918 & the emblem of the Karijites (livin in the Persian Gulf). They were usin plain red flags at least since 1783 but a white band was added due to the Maritime Treaty of 1820 (see "White Pierced Red" flag ). The present pattern was adopted on 2 DECEMBER 1971 when the former Trucial States became independent from the UK.
